Marinaid exists for two reasons: to make home cooking effortless,
and to assist organizations working towards ending hunger.
Simplify cooking
Cooking at home is filled with obstacles. Recipes are scattered across screenshots, bookmarks, photos, cookbooks, recipe boxes, printouts, and notes. Grocery lists are difficult to share between household members.
Marinaid removes those obstacles. Save recipes from anywhere with a tap. Build a grocery list in seconds. Cook hands-free with step-by-step guidance. Plan the week with your household so nobody's wondering what's for dinner.
Help end hunger
A recipe app might seem insignificant in a world where one in eight people don't have reliable access to food. We can't fix that alone, but we can make sure the business contributes meaningfully from day one, not "someday when we're big enough."
Marinaid donates 10% of every dollar of revenue to hunger-relief organizations. Not 10% of profit. 10% of revenue, before our own costs. It's a commitment that scales with the app: the more people use Marinaid, the more goes to people who need food.
To start, we will be donating to Feeding America. We'll report on our giving each year, so the commitment is something you can hold us to.
Who's behind Marinaid
Last year I took over the cooking at home. I liked the recipes I was finding, but the apps kept getting in my way. I didn't want to flip back to the ingredient list to find how much coriander. I didn't want to read three steps ahead to learn I should have chopped the onion before the pan got hot. I wanted a grocery list that already knew I owned cumin.
None of that is earth shattering. But no app I tried did all of it, and the small stuff adds up. It's the difference between cooking being something you enjoy and something you get through.
Marinaid is the app I wanted: technology used to make cooking as stress-free as possible.
Ten percent of revenue goes to fight hunger. I spent 17 years in education technology, helping students learn to read. Literacy is a real challenge, but so is food insecurity. I saw the effects of hunger on students in schools. You can't teach a hungry child to read.
I know I'm not going to fix hunger with a recipe app. What I will do is send 10% of Marinaid revenue to organizations already fighting it, giving our funding the best chance of affecting hunger relief.
